Our global traveller goes domestic

We're in Halifax! We flew in yesterday, via Ottawa. Without a bassinet, it was a long flight for holding Jakob, but he did us proud. He was too excited to give in to naps, and so snoozed only for about 60 minutes in total all day. He spent part of the flight to Ottawa marvelling at the sparkles thrown against the inside of the plane by my engagement ring, and much of the time wanting to bounce on our laps. Despite his lingering cold, he wasn't fussy during the flights, and thankfully his ears were fine.

On the flight into Halifax, Werner brought Jakob to the loo to change his diaper. As I happily sat in my seat (watching an old episode of Boston Legal, no less), a flight attendant caught my attention and reported that my husband needed help, bring a change of clothes.

Oh.

As Werner was changing a very messy diaper on a particularly miniscule airplane change table, Jakob peed on himself and soaked his clothes, and then got one of his feet in the dirty diaper. I dug out the change of clothes I'd stashed away in the diaper bag as Werner got Jakob cleaned up. Naturally, that's when the plane hit turbulence. And, of course, we were nearing the end of the flight, so were rushing to finish before landing.

All was well in the end, but it wasn't a highlight of the trip, that's for sure.

It was late when we got our rental car at the airport (somehow, the car rental company had us down for a compact... not gonna happen with the amount of stuff we have along!), and it took us a while to get everything into the minivan and set up the car seat. By the time we found our way to the hotel, we were very hungry, being that it was suppertime in Vancouver. But, being that it was late in Halifax, the hotel kitchens were closed. On the elevator up to our room, a pizza delivery guy got on with us. Werner and I shared the same thought, which Werner expressed: "How much would it take to get that pizza from you??" Delivery guy didn't even respond. So Werner was dispatched to search for food, and some time after midnight brought back a very good pizza from a pub around the corner.

We called it a night at about 1 am. Jakob, in a playpen, was still babbling to himself as Werner and I caved in to exhaustion.
