Mother Nature has no sense of justice
For the last month or so, I haven't so much slept as napped. I'm up a few times each night to pee, a few more to drink (yes, B might lead to A), and I wake up each time I need to roll over. Every once in a while, it takes me a little longer to fall back to sleep, but I'm exhausted so I'm usually out fairly quickly.
Not last night. We put the lights out around 11:30. It took me a few minutes to fall asleep, after I had a heartburn-filled burp (incredibly unpleasant), and I was up again at 12:30 for my first trip to the loo. I fell back to sleep as soon as I got back in bed, but was awake again a few minutes past 3. That was it for me. Around 4, I went downstairs and had some warm milk. Went back upstairs and read. Petted Phoebe (tried to keep her fairly quiet, too). Maybe around 5:00 or 5:30 I turned off the light and tried again. At 6:15, I started crying in frustration, which woke Werner up. At 6:40, the construction noise began, and I gave up for good.
I know this is just a hint of what's in store for me. I feel awful. I have muscle spasms in my back and neck (they started yesterday, but are growing worse now). I have a headache, and my stomach is upset. I have a prenatal appointment this afternoon, so I do need to schlepp myself out of the house. I'm still in my PJs, and am wondering whether exhaustion will enable me to tune out the sound of construction vehicles saying BEEP BEEP BEEP and band saws and noisy men and whatnot.
I know I have to get used to this, but still, I never imagined I'd be facing sleepless nights before Bärchen's birth.

I don't want to raise your hopes unduly, but I went through rather the same thing while 7 months pregnant with Joffre, while they were replacing the building envelope. After dispairing of ever sleeping again, I actually did get about a month of decent sleeps before I hit about 38 weeks and insomnia kicked back in.
When you're pregnant with a toddler, you can pretty much sleep standing up.
