Slaying the dragon?
Well, I haven't tried Rolaids, but I've been a committed fan of Tums since 22 weeks and needed some sort of relief for the worsening heartburn. For about two months, the Tums did the job, but these last few weeks they've really only taken the edge off the heartburn, and even then only for a very short period. If I had only two weeks to go, I could manage, but the thought of two more months of this was a bit more than I could bear, and I raised my concerns (discomforts?) at today's prenatal appointment.
Zantac is used to reduce the amount of acid in the digestive tract, so it is used not only to treat heartburn but also ulcers; Tums just tries to neutralise the acid that is already there. And it is said to be safe in pregnancy. (I can still take Tums, though, for the calcium. Hopefully I just won't be dependent on them, as I have been for the last few months.)
In any case, I'm hoping that two little pills a day will slay this dragon, once and for all.
