I feel awful!!
About an hour ago, as I was nursing Jakob, I decided to trim his nails. He was content and relaxed and that's how I did it last time.
And I nipped him! The thumb on his right hand. He whimpered and pulled away and looked at me and I cried and cried and cried and held him tight.
I know accidents happen, but I'm not supposed to hurt him, I'm supposed to protect him!
I feel so horrible...

With Joffre, I was too scared to trim his nails, so I asked my father-in-law the surgeon to do it while they were visiting. I was napping, when I awakened to screaming baby noises. He had nicked not one but three little fingers. I was horrified.
Then with Alec, I nicked his fingers while cutting his nails, when he was about 6 weeks old. When I took him in for his first immunizations, and the doctor and med student were cringing as the baby cried at the needles, I just said, "aw, that's nothing. You should have heard him when I snipped his fingertips. . . "
It does make you feel awful when it happens; take solace, though, in the knowledge that almost everyone does it!
