Jakob's introduction to the Atlantic (aka, his grandparents will find us anywhere!)

Werner and I slept until about 9 Thursday morning, Jakob until 10:30. Once he was up, Werner got Jakob ready and we dashed out in search of breakfast, finally finding a Cora's a block or two away. All three of us hungrily gulped down our food. We returned to the hotel and got ready for a day of sightseeing.

But first, the necessities. It didn't seem sensible to bring along baby essentials that we could just buy here, so we found an Atlantic Superstore where we stocked up on diapers, jarred food, cereal, organic bananas, and (for me, obviously) nursing pads. That done, we hit the road to Peggy's Cove, the essential destination for tourists to Halifax. When we arrived, Jakob was hungry again, so I sat in the van and nursed him while Werner went into the visitor centre. I called Mom and said that we were there; she said they'd just driven by Peggy's Cove and were planning to visit later in the day.

Jakob fed, we got him into the stroller and started walking to the lighthouse. Then Mom and Gord and their friends drove up. Yup, Nanny couldn't wait to see Jakob! The Baby Bjorn was still tucked away safely in Jakob's suitcase back at the hotel, so Mom stayed with Jakob while Werner and I explored the rocks around the lighthouse. I'm not sure who had more fun...

By then, we were hungry again, so we went into the restaurant. Mom and Gord came in to give Jakob more cuddles before heading off with their friends, and we enjoyed a nice (late) lunch. We took a long route back to Halifax and, naturally, stopped at a Tim's for Timbits to complete our little road trip.

We let Jakob play for a bit in the hotel room while Werner did a little work, and then we strapped him back into his stroller for a walk up to the Citadel. The old fort itself was closed for the day, but we enjoyed the views of the city from atop the hill.

We returned to the hotel and had supper in the hotel pub. (Mmmmm... I had a Strongbow for the first time since before I was pregnant!) On the way back to our room, at about 10 pm, another couple in the elevator commented that Jakob was up late. Not so much, we reassured them, "he's on Vancouver time."
