So much for cross-border shopping

Friday got off to a frustrating start.

We decided that we'd get a Baby Bjorn Active while in the States, because of a substantial difference in price. (We also considered getting the stroller here for the same reason, but decided it was too cumbersome.) Me being me, I did my research. Ah-ha, Target has them for $US 120! And there's a Target in Cambridge!

So I left early again, with the plan to get the carrier, drop it off at the hotel, and then resume being a tourist. I walked over to the T station, and couldn't find anyone at the booth to ask for directions. I eventually spotted some employees by the trams, so I used my pass to go in to ask for help. Turns out I wasn't even in the right spot for the busses. Not far off, but still definitely not in the right place. Once I did find the busses, I asked a driver which bus I'd need. #87, it turned out. Then I found a schedule. It was 9:15 am; there had been a bus at 9:06, the next one was due at 9:45. Ugh. Since I was trying to travel light, I didn't have a book with me, and just sat there for the next half hour. As it happens, I probably could have walked to the store more quickly, because the trip by bus took only 5 minutes.

Finally made it. Went inside. Found the baby section, but couldn't immediately find the carriers. Found a helpful person who directed me to the carrier selection. Not one Baby Bjorn of any kind. There was a Baby Bjorn Original box, but stuffed inside it was a Snugli. {sigh} Well, at least I can look at their mat clothes. No luck there, either - only two racks to choose from, and none of it what I was looking for.

Maybe this was just a particularly small store, or maybe they were low on stock, I don't know. I was definitely disappointed, though, and felt like I'd wasted a big chunk of my (limited) time here. And the Target stores seem few and far between, mostly located away from the city centre; the one I visited was by far the closest, and the savings to be realised (though sizable) just couldn't justify trekking all over the Boston area in search of a single item.

I gave up, got a bus back to Lechmere station, and then a tram into central Boston.

But still I felt determined to find and acquire this carrier. Every time I saw a promising looking store, I popped in. No success at all. It probably didn't help that I don't really know American stores; if I had, I would have known that the stores I looked in just don't carry that kind of thing. Ah, but there's a Sears in the mall across the street from our hotel, surely they must have carriers!! Yes, but only by Infantino. Foiled again.

{sigh}

At least Canada Customs should be straightforward.
