Citizen of the world

We spent this morning sorting out Jakob's citizenship. First stop: the German consulate, where we ordered his German passport and registered his birth with the German authorities. Second stop: the Canadian passport office to apply for his Canadian passport.

At 27 days of age, he's formally a dual citizen.

Many thanks to Melania who confirmed that yes, the passport office really did want an adult-type (eyes open, no smile) photo for our newborn's passport, and also explained just how I could go about getting an acceptable passport photo. Acceptable to Canada, that is; the Germans weren't all that concerned. In any case, here's the outcome:

In semi-related news, I will be the only member of the family without dual citizenship: Werner has received official permission from Germany to seek Canadian citizenship. Hooray!

It's great - much better than Alec's, actually . . . hope it wasn't too much of a hassle to get done!
