The gift of babysitting

Yesterday morning, Poppy announced that Werner and I were going to go out for supper while he and Nanny cared for Jakob. Through our sleep deprivation haze, we took them up on the offer and made reservations for Chambar, a Belgian restaurant I've wanted to try since seeing it profiled on Opening Soon about two years ago.

We made reservations for 5:45. Indecent hour! The restaurant was remarkably busy and our choices were either then or 8:45, and we knew we wouldn't last 'til then.

Our first evening out without Jakob. Probably our last for a very very long time.

And there was a baby at the next table. (At least we know they have high chairs.)

We came home and collapsed into bed. Not in the romantic way. In the exhausted new parent kind of way.

Thanks, Nanny and Poppy, for the evening out. We appreciated it more than we could say through the exhaustion.
