Jakob's first church service

Somehow we managed to get ourselves out the door and to church on time. Before the service began, Jakob was introduced and we were congratulated. He was definitely the centre of attention afterwards, with many people (including Dr W. and his wife) coming to admire him. Each commented on how adorable/beautiful he is, to which I could only respond, "We think so, but we're biased!" Dr W.'s wife said that we should believe him, as he has seen so many newborns.

The service itself seemed extra-special today. For one thing, being Thanksgiving, gratitude was an underlying theme, and so when the minister spoke of shouts of joy, he gave the example of the joy we feel at having Jakob join our little family and the messages sent 'round the world announcing his birth. Aside from that, two of the hymns (For the Fruit of All Creation, and For the Beauty of the Earth) from today's service we had also included in our wedding liturgy.

In utero, Jakob always squirmed a great deal during church, and I've missed more than one sermon these past months as I've focussed instead on my squirmy Bärchen. Today, though, he was quiet and peaceful, even as we got him out of his carrier to take him up in our arms for communion.

A good little Bärchen, a special morning.
