Belly envy revisited

We began the third stage (second for us, since we skipped stage 1) of prenatal classes last night. Nothing very practical yet, but at least it wasn't so kumbaya-ish as I feared from our earlier experience.

However, my belly envy has returned. Yet again, the majority of women in the class have classically round, obvious bumps. Werner keeps reassuring me that yes I do indeed look pregnant, but I'm not convinced. When I'm standing, I think I mostly do, but when I'm seated I think I just look like I've let myself go. I've been told a few times now that I'm carrying low, which could explain the absence of a classic I've-got-a-beach-ball-stuck-to-my-torso silhouette in place of an I've-stuffed-a-feather-pillow-under-my-shirt shape. (Carrying low could also explain why some of my mat pants are getting very uncomfortable.) That doesn't make me feel any less disappointed or envious, though.

Maybe it's a GIRL!!! Well, that's what they say . . . I was beachballish - absurdly so - with both the boys, and when I was pregnant with Alec I would be walking around Vancouver with Joffre and little Chinese grandmothers would come up to me and say, "it's another boy!"

I'm with you on the belly envy! I'm almost 24 weeks and I barely look 3 months pregnant! I figure that the smaller my belly, the less stretch it will have to endure and hopefully it will return to its nice flat state after our little one makes an appearance. :) I agree with Melania as my belly is smaller and I am having a girl! :)

I think you're right, Kat - my belly did shrink back down (eventually), but I have a funny jelly-like accordian pouch of skin across my lower tummy, a permanent souvenir of the basketballs and the many and varied accompanying stretch marks (or, as one husband award-winningly called them, "tiger stripes").
