This might not seem to relate to Bärchen, but it does
If you know me (and you should, if you've got this URL!), you'll know that Green College was a vital component of my graduate life at UBC. Well, in the almost two years since the current Principal was appointed, GC has been on a trajectory which I (and many others) believe is not in keeping with the vision of the original benefactors and founders, nor is it in keeping with the spirit of this once-upon-a-time world-class academic institution.
A crisis point has been reached in the last few weeks, and I (and again many others) feel that this is a turning point for the College. The Principal has handed over the College to UBC's Housing and Conferences (it has always been a unit of the Faculty of Graduate Studies - only fitting for an academic unit that happens to also provide residential facilities), and the famed Green College Dining Society is in jeopardy of being dismantled.
For more information on this crisis, please go to the website maintained by the Green College Residents Association.
Now why is this related to Bärchen? Simply because without Green College, in all likelihood Werner and I would not have met. There would be no Bärchen without Green College. (I was a bit shocked when I realised this - just how far GC penetrated into my life, past and present.)
