Two-tier health care

I'm fundamentally opposed to two-tier health care, but am afraid I might have crossed the line without realising it.

Today we received our supplementary newborn screening kit. In BC, only four conditions are screened through the newborn heel prick. The province is pretty close to the bottom of the heap. By comparison, Saskatchewan screens for 31 conditions, Ontario for 27.

We weren't comfortable with the disparities between provinces. So, we ordered a supplementary kit. From this we'll get a much broader (possibly excessively broad) screen for Bärchen. I feel it is the right thing to do, but once we ordered the kit, I suddenly felt pangs of guilt that I might have unwittingly indulged in two-tier health care.

And if we bank Bärchen's blood, would that also be a form of privatised medicine?

Tough decisions anyway; now that my socio-political convictions are being called into question, the decisions are no easier.
