Not so blue?
We headed away from Krems, up the valley:
Eventually, we ran out of sidewalk, so we headed back to the hotel. I fed Jakob and we left again, walking towards the river, through the abutting village of Stein:
Finally walked along the Danube, and it just didn't seem so blue to me afterall.
We strolled along the river, pausing to enjoy the ducks:
And a man helped me get the stroller up some stairs (there was a built-in ramp, but it was very steep) so I could cross a footbridge. We ended up near the train station, and stopped in at the "Tier und Wir" ('animals and we', but it rhymes in German) to look (unsuccessfully) for an interesting new toy for Phoebe. In the shopping district, we stopped at a cafe, where I enjoyed a Himbeerenschnitte (lunch) and some sort of chocolate cake (dessert) with tea while Jakob became increasingly impatient. Ok, I didn't really get to savour my treats, I had to gobble them down as Jakob made it clear he wanted to keep going. {sigh} At least I did get to try a real Austrian cafe. We walked back through the university:
and met up with Werner for the walk back to the hotel. Everything was back to normal at the hotel restaurants, so we dined there. Again, though, Jakob got quite fussy during the meal. We took turns holding him and playing with him, and eventually he fell asleep in the corner of a bench, wedged in between us.
