The prince on his throne
We've been stewing over this for quite a while now. We knew we wanted a Stokke TrippTrapp chair (it's what our neice and nephew used, and what we'll be borrowing while we're in Germany), but weren't sure whether we should get it now and then ship it to Toronto or just buy it once we've arrived in Toronto. Under plan A, we would get a 'cheapie' high chair, but couldn't find one. We tried a consignment store, but no luck. The ones we saw at the big stores didn't appeal, and all the stores had basically the same chairs anyway. We need to get a portable booster anyway, so that was a brief consideration until we realised that the one we're interested in has only a 3-point harness and therefore isn't suitable for younger babies.
We finally decided to just get the TrippTrapp. I called TJ's first, but they didn't have one in stock. Baby's World did, at the Coquitlam store. I was determined to buy it at ABC Baby Store (i.e., Anywhere But Crocodile), so we drove out to Coquitlam. To Werner, this had a perk - Ikea meatballs for lunch - so he wasn't too unhappy to drive out to the distant 'burbs. (Shhhh! Don't tell him that the TrippTrapp actually costs more at Baby's World than at the Dreaded Crocodile!! What we spent in money, we saved in unwelcome attitude, anyway.)
Happily, it is flat-packed (ah, Scandinavian wood furniture!), so shipping it out to Ontario won't be a big deal. Even better, it is a nice looking chair. The natural wood finish matches our other furniture. Because it doesn't have a tray, it can be pulled right up to the dining table and Jakob can be included.
And he loves it! He seems to really enjoy his new perspective on the world and being so close to us. He watches us closely as we eat. And, if we aren't attentive, he'll grab the newspaper or anything else that comes within grabbing range. (The Denby is staying well out of reach!)
My only whinges are minor. The shoulder straps for the harness should have been criss-crossed to keep them from sliding off his shoulders; I found a clip (intended for sealing open bags) works perfectly well, though. The other whinge is that it is a bit tricky to get him in and out of the chair, because of the 'baby rail'. The rail makes the chair safe for infants, but is a fidget to get off and on so I assume is meant to just stay on. When he squirms, it is a bit of a challenge to coax his legs through the openings.
But, it's a great chair, and is a hit so far with Jakob!
